A swing type non-return valve, also known as a swing type check valve or one-way valve, is a type of industrial valve that is designed to allow the flow of fluids or gases in one direction only. The valve works by using a hinged disc or flap that swings open in response to the flow of the fluid or gas, allowing the fluid or gas to flow through. When the flow stops, the disc or flap swings back to its closed position, preventing the fluid or gas from flowing back in the opposite direction.
Swing type non-return valves are commonly used in applications where backflow prevention is critical, such as in water treatment plants, pumping stations, and chemical processing plants. They are also used in applications where a tight shut-off is required, such as in steam and gas lines.
Swing type non-return valves can be made from various materials, including cast steel, stainless steel, and bronze, depending on the specific application requirements. They are available in various sizes, pressure ratings, and configurations to suit different applications. Additionally, swing type non-return valves can be customized with various materials, trims, and coatings to meet specific operating conditions and requirements.
Compared to lift type non-return valves, swing type non-return valves are better suited for applications where there are particulates or debris in the fluid or gas flow. The swinging disc or flap is less prone to fouling, which can cause a lift type non-return valve to malfunction. However, swing type non-return valves require more space to operate, as the swinging disc or flap needs room to move.
